By Summer 2027, Los Gatos Boulevard's Two Grocers Will Be Whole Foods and Gus's

October 29, 2026

A year ago, the stretch of Los Gatos Boulevard near Blossom Hill Road had two full grocery stores, Whole Foods at Cornerstone and Nob Hill Foods on the corner. Next summer it will have two again. Only one name stays on the list. Whole Foods has moved down the boulevard to a building almost twice its old size. Its old space is going to a San Francisco family grocer. Nob Hill, which has been on its corner for nearly 56 years, plans to close in June 2027, so the coming Thanksgiving and December are its final holiday season here.

Each change on this stretch followed from the one before it. Looking at them in order shows what the corner will look like by next summer, and what is still undecided.

The move that started the sequence

Whole Foods opened its new store on April 15, 2026, at 15650 Los Gatos Blvd. The company's announcement calls it a relocation of a Los Gatos store that had served the town for more than 30 years. The new store is 43,130 square feet, almost double the size of the old one. It adds a coffee and juice bar, more seating and its own parking lot.

The release listed daily hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Local suppliers are named at the counters. Produce comes partly from Tomatero Farm and Coke Farm, and the cheese case carries Andante Dairy and Nicasio Valley Cheese. Genji makes the sushi, and the bakery shelves include Acme Bread Company and Firebrand Artisan Breads. The beverage department lists more than 110 local wineries and 40 local breweries.

The building sits on a former auto dealership site at the 15500 to 15650 block, which was redeveloped for Whole Foods and Tesla. Tesla's showroom and service center at 15500 Los Gatos Blvd. had opened by March 2026.

The store has also done well. Store Team Lead Kendall Witthans told the Los Gatan in an October 21 story that it has passed its $1 million weekly target every week since opening, except the Fourth of July holiday week. Prepared Foods was planned at about $70,000 a week, and she said it is bringing in more than $105,000. That is about 50 percent above plan, in the department where hot food, salads, pizza and sandwiches are sold.

The same Los Gatan story covered the store's partnership with West Valley Community Services. Whole Foods donated a refrigerated van, and the two held a mobile food market on Tuesday, October 6, for Nourishing Our Neighborhoods Day. Witthans said she expects the event to happen quarterly.

The corner store's last holiday season

Nob Hill Foods at 15710 Los Gatos Blvd. is across Los Gatos-Almaden Road from the new Whole Foods. In August, Raley's, which owns Nob Hill, confirmed that it will not renew the lease when it expires in 2027. SFGATE reported that the store is expected to close in June 2027. Raley's chief marketing officer said the decision followed a review of the store's performance and current economic conditions.

The Los Gatan noted that the announcement came four months after Whole Foods opened across the road. It also reported that Raley's closed its Mountain View store in May and its Roseville store in January.

The dates show what is coming for anyone who shops there. Thanksgiving 2026 and the December holidays will be the last ones in Nob Hill's nearly 56-year run at Los Gatos Boulevard and Blossom Hill Road. The store will still be open through the winter and into next spring.

What fills the space Whole Foods left

Cornerstone Shopping Center lost two large tenants. Whole Foods moved out, and Rite Aid closed every location after the chain's bankruptcy. Cilker, the Los Gatos firm that manages the center, has leased both spaces. Cilker Vice President Mary Egan told the Los Gatan that the new leases are "a strategic repositioning of the property." Cilker was founded in 1945 as a family agricultural and real estate company.

The former Rite Aid space came first. Club Studio has been operating since early September in the 19,000-square-foot space at 15920 Los Gatos Blvd. The club has four studio rooms:

  • Strength: a HIIT-style class called CS4, using treadmills, rowers and SkiErg machines
  • Ride: indoor cycling with a weight sequence
  • Hot Yoga: in a heated studio
  • Pilates: on reformers

Club Studio's October 6 announcement sets the official grand opening for Saturday, November 14, 2026. It will be a community celebration with giveaways and local vendors, and a ribbon-cutting with the Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce is planned before it.

The grocery space comes next. Gus's Community Market has signed a lease for the 18,000-square-foot space at 15980 Los Gatos Blvd. that Whole Foods left. The Mercury News reported that the store is expected to open in spring 2027, along with an in-house café partner. It will be Gus's first location outside San Francisco. The family business started in 1981 in Haight-Ashbury and now runs five stores in the city, including Canyon Market and stores on Noriega, Haight, Harrison and Channel streets. Co-owner Dimitri Vardakastanis gave the Mercury News the company's reason for coming:

"Los Gatos is a special community with a strong appreciation for quality food, local businesses, and personal service. We are excited about becoming a part of the neighborhood."

Gus's is moving into a space about 40 percent the size of the store Whole Foods built down the boulevard. Gus's will be closer in size to the Whole Foods that served Los Gatos for three decades than to the one that replaced it.

The same stretch, three points in time

Here are the five addresses this story covers, at three points in time.

Address Spring 2026 This holiday season Expected by summer 2027
15500 Los Gatos Blvd. Tesla, open by March Tesla Tesla
15650 Los Gatos Blvd. Whole Foods opens April 15 Whole Foods Whole Foods
15710 Los Gatos Blvd. Nob Hill Foods Nob Hill Foods Closed after June 2027; no successor announced
15920 Los Gatos Blvd. Former Rite Aid, vacant Club Studio, grand opening Nov. 14 Club Studio
15980 Los Gatos Blvd. Former Whole Foods Gus's lease signed Gus's Community Market, expected spring 2027

The table shows a possible overlap. If Gus's opens on time in spring and Nob Hill stays open until June, the stretch could briefly have three grocers. Gus's has only said "spring 2027," so the overlap depends on that date. After June, the count goes back to two.

The table also shows the one open question. The 15710 Los Gatos Blvd. corner, which has held a grocery store for nearly 56 years, has no announced successor tenant or plan. It is the only address in the table without a known next use.

The rest of the town's grocery options

This stretch is not the only place in town to buy groceries. The Los Gatan points out that Los Gatos also has a large Safeway east of Highway 17 near downtown, along with two others. The specialty grocer Lunardi's is about five blocks from the new Whole Foods.

On the stretch itself, the order of events is set. Club Studio has its grand opening on November 14. Nob Hill has its last Thanksgiving and December on the corner. Gus's opens at Cornerstone in spring if the schedule holds, and Nob Hill closes in June.

A commercial corner that changes this much usually affects the homes around it, and the sales that follow tend to show it before any headline does.
